Southern Sun is an iconic South African hospitality brand with a heritage dating back to 1969. With 103 properties spanning budget hotels to luxury resorts, the group’s IT team of just 28 people faced a significant challenge: a fragmented network infrastructure built from a patchwork of vendors and technologies.

Connectivity was inconsistent across properties. The network team had to travel the country to troubleshoot issues on-site, with no single view of performance. Guest experience varied wildly from one hotel to the next. The architecture was designed so that new switches can be installed by junior staff on-site — the device pulls its configuration from the cloud automatically, bringing a property online within minutes rather than requiring specialist engineers.
